Hayes Singles 1 Tonne
This product is only available for collection from our premises in Derrynoose Co Armagh. Please see the list of APPROVED LOW SMOKE PRODUCTS that we do ship by courier. We have many low smoke Approved alternative / comparable products which will give similar heat value and in most cases lasts longer that this particular singles product . Our recommendation as an alternative to this product for customers with Closed Glass appliances or stoves is a product called Surelite. This will give a higher heat output than singles, last longer in your appliance, producing less cinders, will cost you, the customer less and is approved by all Councils and Authorities in ROI.
For customers with an OPEN FIRE, our recommendation is either Magiglo which gives a higher heat output, lasts longer, less ash content and is a lower price point, OR another lower price point product is Cosylite which will give higher heat output, produces a similar dancing flame as singles, lasts a similar length of burn time, has a lower ash content and a lower price point. Both of these products are available along with our other Low Smoke products in our Approved Solid Fuels section on our website.
Used to back the fire up and maintain longer burning. Often described as rough slack. 20 mm in size and is very suitable for both stoves and open fires. Our top recommendation is to use Colombian Coal with Singles on the top to keep the fire in and lengthen the time that the Coal lasts. This combination produces an overwhelming heat, which your neighbours will ask......."Where did you get your Coal". You will literally have to open the door of your front room to allow the heat out of the room. Singles can also be used on their own with sticks in a stove.
Used to back the fire up overnight and to maintain longer burning. This is what is left after Bitumous Coal is sifted and separated into its different particle sizes. Coal is taken from the mine, shipped to its desitnation then separated by screens ( a bit like sieving flour ). The largest peice out is Coal which is around the size of a mans fist. Doubles is the next size down which is around the size of an 11 year old childs fist. The next size down is Singles, which is around the size of a mans thumb from the top of his nail down to the knuckle. ( Approx 20mm).
The next size down is Slack........basically what is left below the size of singles. Most people use slack to back up the fire to make your Coal and sticks last longer. Everyone remembers their Granny putting "Wet" slack on the fire to make the fire last all night. ( Maybe Granny was wiser than you thought ? ) Can be used on open fires but we would recommend that you use Singles in your stove rather than slack, as slack is too fine, which tends to fall down through the grate.
