Hayes Premium Black Diamond Polish Coal.
This fine Polish coal has always been our "flagship product". Our best seller. Affectionately known by our customers as "The Mercedes of Coal" and yet, sold at the Dandys for Skoda prices. It is premium grade coal which means you get a high heat output and a low ash content. Sure isn’t that what everyone wants? Suitable for use in the open fire and in the stove it is a very consistent quality coal and our customers return time and time again for it. They are a discerning lot, so we know its top quality. Combine with a bit of slack on top of coal in an open fire, or use singles on top of coal on a stove to keep the fire in at night.
Hayes Colombian Coal
This Colombian Coal is hot stuff indeed! Mined and shipped from South America, it produces incredible heat output. We call it the ‘Ferrari ‘ of coal. A fantastic coal with practically no ash or cinders left, yet producing a heat that will literally have you opening the door of your living room to allow the heat out of the room. This has to be experienced to be believed. A very clean coal too which we highly recommend for both open fires as well as closed stoves. It’s not often that our customers get excited about a Coal product, but this particular coal has its own fan club who rave about its performance. And well they might rave, as it’s the best coal in Ireland by a country mile. No surprise that it is one of our best selling products, so go on, give the Colombian a go!
House Coal
Affectionatly known by both our staff and our customers as the ‘Ford Mondeo’ of the coal world. It won't excite you too much, but it will get you there and do its job! House Coal is a fantastic, value ranged coal which gives a high heat output and low ash content. It’s a blend of the best UK mined coals awell as coals from some less well known coal producing countries. A great all-rounder producing a good heat and burn time. At the Dandys, this one is a very strong selling coal. We have a significant number of customers who return week after week, season after season to buy more of this House Coal. They tell us it is the mix of value and good heat, which keeps them coming back.
Slack
Most people use slack to back up the fire to make your Coal last a bit longer. Everyone remembers older folk putting slack on the fire to make it last longer. Slack is what is left after bitumous coal is sifted and separated. It’s the smallest piece. The largest piece of coal Coal available is approximately, the size of a man’s fist. Doubles is the next size down whicharound the size of a child’s fist. The next size down is Singles, which is roughly the size of a man’s thumb from the top of his nail down to the knuckle. The last and most wee piece is slack. We would recommend that you use Singles in your stove rather than slack, as it is too fine and tends to fall down through the grate. Slack is great value, keeps great heat in the fire and extends the coal for another while
Mix it up and test drive the coals
If you are still undecided, and in fairness, we have a lot of coal to choose from, we recommend a mix and match pallet. You can try the three described above and or a few other choice fuel treasures that we have in stock. We can build a range of different type products onto a pallet so you can discover which coal is the best for your own needs. The choice is up to you, although we can always advise and inform.
Drop into the yard anytime. We have loads more coal, slack and singles we can tell you about. Or pick up the phone. Between the two of us, we will keep the home fires burning this winter.
