The Right Fit for Wellies
Wellingtons. They are not just any old boots. Wellingtons protect and take care of your feet. They are the treasured possession of gardener, fisherman and, of course, every hardworking farmer. Through rain and shine, wellie boots have been a stalwart to all of us working in the elements, but they really are taken for granted.
The humble wellington has been serving the farming community faithfully and with diligence for the past 200 years. And in return, do we treat this self-effacing footwear with the respect it deserves? Indeed, we do not! We toss them in the porch, dirty and unloved after days’ work, in favour of a warm slipper. We put them through the rigours of farm work without ever appreciating the warmth and the security they provide. We fling them far into the air at ‘Throw the Wellie Competitions’. We sometimes wear odd wellies and we have been known to patch them up with a puncture repair kit. It’s demeaning for footwear with such fine lineage and usage.
Well. That is not the case here at The Dandy’s. Here, we value a good pair of wellington boots. In fact, you might even say that we treasure them. Yet we sell this amazing footwear to you, at reasonable and competitive prices. We also stock an incredible variety of wellies.
A Boot of Aristocracy
The first Wellington boot was made in 1817 for the man who would be immortalised forever by them, The Duke of Wellington. Apparently, he loved them. Of course, they were pretty fancy leather boots and not rubber, but the basic design was as you see it today. By the middle of the 1800’s wellie boots had become a fashion statement and were being made for and worn by the general population. Rubber boots, as they were often called, tramped their way through the trenches of the First World War and even the Second World War. Over the years there have been innovations and design tweaks. There have been additions and subtractions. They have become a fashion statement at music festivals, and a badge of honour at the ploughing championships, but the Wellington boot survives all these mutations and changes to be a solid and earthy essential for any working man and woman.
