Many people are wondering whether they should buy heating oil for the winter now, or whether they should wait till later in the year, in the hope that the price of oil will come down. It is never easy to predict these things, but generally speaking, heating oil costs more in the winter when the demand is higher, and many economists recommend purchasing during the warmer months. Of course, with the worldwide fluctuating prices at the moment, this may not be the best course of action.  All indications are that if the war in Ukraine continues, the price of crude oil will rise before the end of the year. Ireland has the fourth highest oil dependency in the EU, with nearly 37% of the 1.7 million households in the Republic dependent on oil for heating and hot water.  There are a number of things to be done to improve your kerosene consumption but it is not a good idea to let the tank run dry. Running out of oil wont damage the boiler as such., but it can cause problems with the filter, oil pump, and oil line. Depending on how long the boiler stays off, you may end up needing to have the oil line bled and replace the filter before it can be restarted.  We sell 100 liters of oil, for those who wish to purchase a smaller amount of kerosene until the markets stabilise a little.
